DAAD German Academic Exchange Scholarship
What:
The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is a publicly funded organization of higher education instiutions that offers to fund research, study, or internships in Germany. The DAAD provides various scholarships to suit a diverse group of potential candidates.
Who is eligible:
Candidates must be U.S. citizens who know what they want to study or do in Germany. German language proficiency or fluency is required for various scholarships. You can apply as a sophomore, junior or senior.
Selection Procedure:
Applications are available online to download. Each scholarship has different deadlines and must be mailed by the appropriate deadline along with all supporting materials to the DAAD Office in New York unless otherwise noted. The address for the DAAD Office NY is: 871 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017. If you are applying for the Study Scholarship, you must submit all your materials to the SOP Office by 10/19/2010.
Deadline: Internal 10/19/2010 (Study Scholarship - Graduating Seniors - Projected)
Deadline: External 1/30/2010 (Undergraduate Scholarship- Sophomores and Juniors)
Who wins:
Students who are interested in studying, working, or researching in Germany. Students must demonstrate why going to Germany specifically will help with their future goals or plans. Students must also have strong letters of recommendation.
In 2007, UCI's Alexander Phillips was named a DAAD scholarship recipient.
Finances:
Stipends vary depending on the scholarship. Check DAAD website for more details.
