Merage Institute for the American Dream Fellowship
What:
The Merage Foundation for the American Dream is dedicated to enable promising immigrant students contribute to America as leaders in business, science, education, and the arts. The two-year, $20,000 scholarship helps promising immigrant students become leaders in their communities and in the nation by rewarding academic accomplishments, community leadership, civic responsibility, ethical behavior, creativity, and initiative. It encourages Americans to recognize and celebrate immigrants’ contributions to the United States and fosters nonpartisan discussion of key immigration issues facing the U.S.
Who is eligible:
Immigrant fourth-year students who
• are citizens or permanent residents of the United States,
• are full-time students with senior class status, and
• will graduate between December 2010 and August 2011.
Selection Procedure:
Submit applications to the SOP, which will convene a faculty screening panel to nominate up to three candidates. The Foundation considers only applications that have earned university endorsement.
Finalists will be contacted by the Merage Foundation in late January and will be interviewed in late February-early March.
Winners will be announced in mid-April.

Who wins:
Students are awarded scholarships based on the strength of their academic record, leadership, consistency in ethical behavior, clarity of their American Dream, and potential to contribute importantly to America. Merage Fellows share the passion and ability to give back meaningfully to America.
In 2008 Matin Khoshnevis became UCI's fourth student to receive a Merage Scholarship.
Finances:
Winners earn $20,000 over two years to support their pursuit of the American Dream. Stipends may be used for education, travel, internship, or mentoring purposes.
